Brass is back, baby, and there’s no stopping it now! The trend towards brass and gold as the new go-to metal finish is underway.

After walking the halls and showrooms of the recent Las Vegas Market, we can confidently say that gold is here to stay. Other colors and themes were prominent as well. Join me for a quick recap of a market adventure in retail store buying!

I traveled late this July with my daughter, Kate. She is Magnolias’ marketing coordinator and my right hand shopping buddy! Our arrival started with leaving the Las Vegas  airport and stepping into an infrared sauna! The 110 degree heat is bad in July, but we work indoors all day so not a worry. It was off to the registration desk, where we beat the crowd – breezing through the day before the show to secure our badges- then off to get the lay of the land.

At this event, held twice annually, vendors secure expensive showroom space for use only about 10 days a year! The campus is comprised of 3 buildings and 2 pavillion tents with 5 million square feet of showroom space! Needless to say, there is not enough time to see it all. We come with a game plan and work fast to move through our list and see as much as we can.

Walking into the market for the first time each show is exhilarating because the new fresh ideas are what we came for! It’s a thrill to land on a look that we know is fresh and different and our customers will love!

Moroccan Design is having a moment! This hot and spicy look features bright colors of course, as well as tassels, pom poms, tribal motifs and color and in black and white. To get the details, Kate and I attended a seminar featuring my friend Susan Dickenson, editor in chief of Home Accents Today Magazine, who traveled with a group of designer to Morocco and led a group discussion about the adventure! It was fun catching up with her and getting her personal take on the trip. Truly, a once in a lifetime event she says and her favorite purchase – Moroccan slippers! She should have bought more she says!

Hygge, (pronu a concept first noticed at the winter markets this January, is still featured heavily. It’s the Scandinavian obsession with comfort. A minimalist design style  featuring natural wood, pottery, and texture and fur materials that lend a cozy look to your home

Now back to the headline topic. Gold! We are convinced that the gold trend that will click with our customers will be of the vintage brass variety. I liked the rich look paired with dark accents and menswear fabric finishes. See this moody example in the NOIR showroom

Fabric striped chairs with Brass Arms from Alder & Tweed.

Gold makes a comeback with jewel tones as seen here in the Accent Decor Showroom.

Another siting of gold this time used in a boho way with the tropical foliage motif that was most commonly seen in green tones- here shown in gold.

Gold with blush – still a combination that pleases, here at the Mercana showroom paired with a more lavender hued blush  .
